Steam Cloud saves

If you play through Steam with cloud sync on, your character saves sit under Steam’s install folder, keyed by your account ID and the game’s app ID (1203620):

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<SteamID>\1203620\remote\

Replace <SteamID> with your numeric Steam account ID. If several accounts use the same PC, each has its own folder there.

Local saves (1.0 and later)

The 1.0 update (October 2026) moved local saves under a Keen Games folder in your user profile:

%USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\keen games\Enshrouded\default

Paste the path into the Windows Explorer address bar — Explorer expands %USERPROFILE% to your account folder automatically.

Local saves (0.8 and earlier)

Older versions stored local saves one level higher, without the Keen Games subfolder:

%USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Enshrouded\

If your install predates 1.0, look there. Both folders can exist on the same PC after an update, so check the modified times if you are not sure which one your current version writes to.

Which file is your character

Each character is stored as its own .ksd file inside the folder above. The editor works on character saves, so open the folder your version uses and compare each file’s modified time against when you last played a character — the timestamps line up.

Back up before you edit

Copy the .ksd file to another folder — that is the whole backup, and it takes seconds. Do it before any edit, because two things can wipe your changes: the game writes its own save when it exits, and Steam Cloud can restore an older copy from the cloud. Quit Enshrouded fully and consider pausing cloud sync for the game while you work. Knowing the Enshrouded save file location is only half of it; the copy is what actually protects you.
