Enshrouded Save Editor Items

Enshrouded save editor items covers everything your character carries — the stack in the backpack and the gear on their back. This page explains what lives in the file, how editing works, and what to check before you touch a value.

Status: the editor is in beta. Character saves whose layout is recognized can be edited in the browser; item names are not shown because no item database is bundled. Save versions the parser doesn’t understand are refused with a clear error.

What counts as an item

Two kinds of item data sit in a character save. The first is inventory: everything in your backpack, including stack sizes. The second is gear: the equipment your character currently wears or holds. Both are stored inside the character's own .ksd file — one file per character.

World saves are separate files, so item edits you make to a character travel with that character, not with a particular world.

How items are stored in a .ksd file

A .ksd file is not one flat blob. It starts with a table of contents, followed by several compressed data blocks. Character and backpack data live in the player_character block, and the character name in character_data. The editor only unpacks the blocks relevant to items and leaves the rest byte-for-byte identical.

Every block carries a checksum. After any change the editor recomputes it — a stale checksum is the single most common way a "broken" save happens, and the game refuses to load such a file. In short: the Enshrouded save editor items pipeline unpacks the character blocks, edits, re-checksums, and repacks.

What the editor changes

The scope is deliberately narrow: quantities and item levels for the items you already own, so a character you have played stays yours — same world, same progress, same quests. Items are listed by ID (for example Item #2101); no item-name database is bundled, and none is needed to edit counts.

Before you edit anything

  • Quit Enshrouded completely. The game writes saves on exit and will happily overwrite your edited file.
  • Copy the .ksd somewhere safe first — is the Enshrouded save editor safe? walks through the backup in under a minute.
  • If you play with Steam Cloud, pause sync for Enshrouded while you edit, or an older cloud copy may replace your file.
